Day 1 (L,D) HOME, ROCKHAMPTON, GLADSTONE
Our holiday begins on arrival into Rockhampton and we travel to the coastal town of Gladstone, a diverse city with its mix of tropical tourism and major industry. We tour the city prior to arriving at our home for six nights, the Oaks Grand Hotel.
Day 2 (B,L,D) GLADSTONE, TANNUM SANDS
A relaxing day today as we explore some of Gladstone’s highlights. Time to browse the Regional Art Gallery and Museum along with the Gladstone Maritime Museum. At Auckland Hill Lookout enjoy the sweeping views over Port Curtis and the Gladstone Marina. Enjoy lunch at the Gladstone Yacht Club which offers beautiful water views. During the afternoon we take the short drive to Tannum Sands for a relaxing stroll along the Millennium Esplanade on the foreshore.
Day 3 (B,L,D) CALLIOPE, AGNES WATER and TOWN OF 1770
A later start as we travel to the Calliope River Historical Village, featuring a collection of original buildings from the region. We make our way south to Miriam Vale for lunch. We return to the coast to reach the unspoilt “sister” townships of Agnes Water and 1770, the only town in the world with a number for a name. The scenic coastline with clear waters and beautiful golden beaches are spectacular. At 1770 we view the location where Captain Cook stepped ashore.
Day 4 (B,L,D) GLADSTONE, GLADSTONE HARBOUR, CURTIS ISLAND COFFEE CRUISE
A relaxing day with a morning Coffee Cruise around Gladstone Harbour. This is the perfect way to view the port in the comfort of the ‘Curtis Endeavour II’ and discover many highlights of the Harbour and Western Basin. Lunch in Gladstone followed by time to experience the tranquil Toondoon Botanic Gardens, which showcases an outstanding collection of tropical, sub-tropical and dry rainforests.
Day 5 (B,L,D) BILOELA, MOUNT MORGAN
This morning we travel inland to the rural township of Biloela and visit the Queensland Heritage Park which includes “The Silo”, housing displays of the areas primary industries. We depart for Mount Morgan, a historic township dominated by a heritage listed former gold mine. Enjoy lunch here and an informative guided tour of the region. Mid afternoon we return to Gladstone.
Day 6 (B,L,D) LARC TOUR
A day tour with a difference as we board the LARC (Amphibious Craft) to tour the Bustard Bay coastline. Originally in service with the US Army, this unique vehicle travels on land and water and even takes the steep climb up to the Bustard Head Lighthouse. We enjoy a picnic lunch and have time to explore the beautiful beach and sand dunes at Middle Island. (Please note that there are approximately eight steps – with handrail – to access the LARC).
Day 7 (B,L) GLADSTONE, ROCKHAMPTON, HOME
We travel back to Rockhampton this morning to join homebound flights completing our relaxing holiday along the Capricorn Coast.
