Mildura is renowned for its big skies, rich earth and the seventh largest river in the world – the Murray. Day 1 (L,D) HOME, ECHUCA, SWAN HILL
Departing Melbourne we travel north through Kilmore and Heathcote, arriving in Echuca in time for lunch. Spend some time in the port precinct and enjoy lunch. During the afternoon we travel along the Murray Valley Highway to Cohuna before arriving in Swan Hill and our home for tonight, Burke & Wills Motor Inn.
Day 2 (B,L,D) SWAN HILL, MILDURA
This morning we visit the Pioneer Settlement, situated on the banks of the Marraboor River. Step back in time as we stroll amongst the heritage buildings and exhibitions. Today we will also have lunch in Swan Hill before making our way to the Quality Hotel Mildura Grand, our home for the next four nights.
Day 3 (B,L,D) WENTWORTH
Today we cross the border to Wentworth. Visit the Inland Botanic Gardens and Wentworth Gaol before heading to Avoca Station for lunch. This heritage homestead is on the banks of the Darling River and we tour the extensive gardens and buildings. On our way home to Mildura we stop at Junction Park overlooking the spot where the Murray and Darling rivers converge and flow on to Lock 10 and weir.
Day 4 (B,L,D) EASTER DAY
A later start to provide the opportunity for those wishing to attend Church Services to do so. A little free time prior to visiting Orange World this morning. Learn a little of the orange industry and take a ride around this citrus property. Lunch today is at Trentham Estate Winery. Enjoy the relaxing atmosphere taking in stunning views of the Murray River. This afternoon there is time to relax at our motel, enjoy a walk in the park along the river or do a self guided Art Deco heritage walk right in the heart of Mildura.
Day 5 (B,L,D) MILDURA
This morning we enjoy a cruise on the Murray River with morning tea aboard a paddle steamer. Lunch at the Mildura RSL Wirraway Bistro, named after the WWII fighter aircraft which was used to train pilots at the RAAF Training unit established in 1942. This afternoon we visit Rio Vista and the Old Mildura Homestead.
Day 6 (B,L,D) MILDURA, SEA LAKE, BENDIGO
A stop in Red Cliffs before heading into the Mallee. View the 70 metre cliffs that gave this town its name, visit Big Lizzie and the old railway station in the town centre. A morning cuppa in Ouyen, the centre of the Victorian Mallee country. This area was once covered in drought-resistant eucalypt (mallee) which proved very difficult to uproot and destroy. The dense wood today is used for wood turning and burning. Lunch in Sea Lake and an afternoon stop at Wedderburn before heading to the goldrush era city of Bendigo and our overnight home, Lake View Resort.
Day 7 (B,L) BENDIGO, HOME
This morning we visit Central Deborah Gold Mine where we board the vintage talking tram for a tour of Bendigo. Visit Bendigo Pottery, the oldest Australian working pottery before lunch. We return along the Calder Highway arriving in Melbourne around 4:00 p.m. Metropolitan home, hotel and airport transfers complete a most relaxing stayput holiday in Mildura.
