Kangaroo Island & Victor Harbour

Day 1 (L,D) HOME, ADELAIDE, CAPE JERVIS, PENNESHAW, AMERICAN RIVER

Following home/hotel pick up in the Melbourne metropolitan area, we transfer to Melbourne Airport for the short flight to Adelaide (lunch in flight). Passengers from other states may fly direct to Adelaide or via Melbourne, depending on schedules. During the afternoon we travel to Cape Jervis with afternoon tea along the way. Late afternoon we board the SeaLink ferry for the crossing to Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island. We transfer to American River and our home for five nights, The All Seasons Kangaroo Island Lodge. Settle in and enjoy a later dinner.

Day 2 (B,L,D) PENNINGTON BAY, STOKES BAY, ISLAND PURE DAIRY, ISLAND BEEHIVE

A later start this morning visiting the beautiful Pennington Bay. We continue to Stokes Bay and then enjoy a picnic lunch at the Stokes Bay Bush Garden. In the afternoon we visit an attraction with a difference – Island Pure Dairy with a dairy flock of 1,500 milking sheep. The dairy includes a cheese and yoghurt making facility producing world class yoghurt and cheeses, including several European styles. Watch sheep being milked, taste Island Pure yoghurts and cheese, purchase if you wish. We return via the Island Beehive.

Day 3 (B,L,D) SEAL BAY, RAPTOR DOMAIN, FLINDERS CHASE N.P., REMARKABLE ROCKS, HANSON BAY

Today we visit Seal Bay and join a guided walk on the beach among the 500 sea lions that live there. (There are a large number of steps from the Visitor Centre to the beach, however there are good views also from the cliff top board walk.) Morning cuppa at the Raptor Domain “Birds of Prey” free flight presentation featuring wedge-tailed eagles, barn owls, kookaburras and much more. An exciting first class show! We continue to Flinders Chase National Park for lunch. Visit Remarkable Rocks, Cape du Couedic and Admirals Arch, home of a colony of New Zealand fur seals. On our return we stop at Hanson Bay Koala Park for a koala walk and educational talk. A memorable day!

Day 4 (B,L,D) PENNESHAW, EMU RIDGE EUCALYPTUS DISTILLERY, KI SPIRITS, HOPE COTTAGE, KINGSCOTE

A relaxing day today as we visit some of the local attractions. Our morning starts with a visit to the Penneshaw Maritime and Folk Museum before continuing to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery for lunch. We return via Kangaroo Island Spirits to see hand made liqueurs in small batches featuring local ingredients, enjoy a tasting of these liqueurs, purchase if you wish. Later we visit Hope Cottage Museum. Some free time to enjoy the township of Kingscote this afternoon before watching the daily pelican feeding at Kingscote.

Day 5 (B,L,D) CAPE BORDA, SCOTTS COVE, ANDERMEL MARRON FARM, PARNDANA WILDLIFE PARK

Today we journey across the island to Cape Borda. Here we enjoy a guided tour of the historic square lighthouse and museum. Spectacular sea views from the rocks on which the lighthouse is built. Visit the lighthouse cemetery and Scott’s Cove, view the highest coastal cliffs in SA. A highlight today is lunch and short farm tour and demonstration at the Gum Creek Andermel Marron Farm. Marron are freshwater crayfish, and are farmed here at Gum Creek in an amazing and huge series of outdoor ponds. A vineyard on the property produces excellent wines under the “Two Wheeler” label and we enjoy a wine tasting prior to a most enjoyable luncheon. Later we visit Parndana Wildlife Park before returning to our hotel.

Day 6 (B,L,D) KINGSCOTE, PENNESHAW, CAPE JERVIS, VICTOR HARBOR

Returning to Penneshaw, we join the mid morning ferry to Cape Jervis. We travel to Yankalilla, view the HMAS Hobart Memorial Lookout. During the afternoon we continue through Inman Valley and view Glacier Rock, first recorded discovery of glaciation in Australia. On to Victor Harbor and our home for three nights, the McCracken Country Club. Relax and enjoy the 4.5 star comfort and amenities.

Day 7 (B,L,D) VICTOR HARBOR

A relaxing day in and around Victor Harbor. Enjoy a horse drawn tram ride to Granite Island, take in the views from the Bluff and visit the Encounter Coast Discovery Centre, originally a customs centre and the harbour masters’ house. Lunch at the Hotel Victor and then some free time this afternoon.

Day 8 (B,L,D) GOOLWA, THE COORONG

This morning we travel to Goolwa and Hindmarsh Island, view the mouth of the Murray River. Later in the morning join a Spirit of Coorong Cruise. Enjoy lunch and afternoon tea as we cruise into Coorong National Park, stopping at Godfrey’s Landing for a guided board walk across Younghusband Peninsula.

Day 9 (B,L,D) VICTOR HARBOR, HAHNDORF

A leisurely morning as we travel to McLaren Vale for a morning cuppa then onto Hahndorf, one of the Adelaide Hill’s most famous towns. Here we visit The Cedars, home of the late Sir Hans Heysen. Enjoy a fascinating guided tour of his studio and home. Lunch here in this quaint town and time to browse in the many craft shops. Our overnight home Manna of Hahndorf.

Day 10 (B,L) HAHNDORF, ADELAIDE, HOME

This morning we travel to Adelaide and enjoy a short city sights tour prior to lunch at Adelaide Airport. We join our early afternoon flight to Melbourne or other home destinations. In Melbourne, metropolitan home/hotel transfers are available. So ends a most enjoyable South Australian holiday.
