Ultra Short Breaks

Mornington Peninsula

The Mornington Peninsula is only an hour drive from Melbourne, but it seems a world away, especially mid week. In fact, the Peninsula has a Mediterranean atmosphere with its vineyards and olive groves, its historic country houses and gardens.

Day 1 (L,D) LANGWARRIN, MORNINGTON, RYE
Following Melbourne metropolitan/home/hotel pickups a short drive down the freeway to begin our break on the Mornington Peninsula. A morning tea stop at the McClelland Gallery & Sculpture Park in Langwarrin gets our Ultra Short Break underway. We travel through country roads and farm lands to Mornington for lunch before enjoying a scenic coastal drive down the peninsula. Visit Heronswood Gardens before heading to our two night stay at Best Western One Four Nelson, Rye.

Day 2 (B,L,D) POINT NEPEAN, ARTHURS SEAT, RED HILL, MAIN RIDGE
This morning we explore the most southern tip of the peninsula to visit Point Nepean. Point Nepean was opened to the public in December 1988, before which time it had been out of bounds to most people for more than 100 years. It had associations with early settlers, quarantine, shipping and defence. Lunch today is at Arthurs Seat. This afternoon we journey through Red Hill and Main Ridge in the hinterland of the peninsula.

Day 3 (B,L) CAPE SCHANCK, FLINDERS
On our final day on the peninsula we make our way to Boneo Maze & Wetlands. Morning cuppa in the café. Visit the most southern point of the Peninsula, Cape Schanck, with its rugged and rocky outcrops. Lunch today in Flinders. Visit art galleries and if time permits, the handmade chocolate shop before returning to Melbourne arriving around 4:30pm. Metropolitan home, hotel and airport drop offs conclude a most enjoyable ultra short stayput holiday.
