For Young at Heart, 2009 was our first visit to Binna Burra Mountain Lodge which combines the peace and tranquillity of a mountain getaway with a unique opportunity to explore a truly beautiful rainforest environment. We stay in “Acacia Rooms” with panoramic mountain or rainforest views, private facilities and balcony. Radios, clocks, telephones and televisions are not found in our rooms in order to “leave the world behind”. After three nights in this idyllic mountain forest hideaway, we transfer to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat also located in the Lamington National Park.
We have been visiting O’Reilly’s world-famous guest house for over ten years. It was opened in 1926 and is now operated by third generation O’Reillys. Originally a dairy farming lease, until 1946 the last stage of the journey to O’Reilly’s was undertaken by horseback, along a mountain track which originally was used to take cream to a dairy factory off the mountain and to bring all the materials and supplies to the farm. Today O’Reilly’s is a modern property with an old fashioned flavour, set in the ever-beautiful mountains of the Gold Coast hinterland.
Please note: Unfortunately this itinerary is not suitable for passengers using walkers or for those who cannot climb stairs.
