Longer Stayput Holidays

Perth Gold Stayput

Are you tempted by a stayput holiday with a twist? The Bunbury & Perth Stayput is a new Young at Heart holiday staying in not one, but two terrific locations on the West Coast of Australia.

Our home for the first three nights is the Mantra Bunbury. Located on Bunbury’s Waterfront, the Mantra offers modern spacious rooms, a heated indoor swimming pool and is just a short walk from the centre of town. From towering forests to world class wineries and rugged coastlines, we explore a great diversity of terrain and some little known gems of the south west.

We then travel to Perth for 6 nights staying at Mirvac’s Citigate Hotel. Centrally located in Perth’s CBD, the Citigate is a recently refurbished deluxe 4 star property. We spend the next six days discovering this booming city and its environs – including Fremantle. Perth is the sunniest capital city in Australia with over 3,000 hours of sunshine a year. And a visit at this time of year should treat us to a brilliant display of the wildflowers for which Western Australia is famed.

Day 1 (L,D) HOME, PERTH, BUNBURY
Following Melbourne metropolitan home/hotel pickup we fly to Perth. Lunch in flight. Passengers from other states may fly direct to Perth. On arrival we are met by our Young at Heart coach and Coach Captain. Departing Perth we travel to the seaside town of Rockingham for an afternoon cuppa before continuing to Bunbury and our home for three nights, Mantra Bunbury.

Day 2 (B,L,D) BUNBURY, BUSSELTON, MARGARET RIVER
A leisurely day as we visit Busselton with its jetty of over a kilometre in length. Visit St. Mary’s Church, the first stone church built in WA, completed in 1848. We continue to Cowaramup and enjoy tastings at the Margaret River Regional Wine centre prior to lunch. Following lunch we pause in Margaret River township with some time to stroll along the shopping precinct. From Margaret River we travel Caves Road to Dunsborough with a diversion to Cape Naturaliste and spectacular views of the Indian Ocean and coastline from the Lighthouse. We return to Bunbury along the Giant Tuart forest drive.

Day 3 (B,L,D) FERGUSON VALLEY
Today we explore, with a local guide, the hinterland behind Bunbury. Highlights include the Ferguson Valley, Wellington Dam, Gnomesville and a bush tucker walk. This is a very beautiful and relatively undiscovered part of Western Australia.

Day 4 (B,L,D) BUNBURY, MANDURAH, PERTH
We head north following the coast road to Australind before arriving in Mandurah, a thriving city with many canal waterfront homes set on the picturesque Peel Inlet. Enjoy a calm water cruise on the Inlet before travelling the short distance to Barragup and the beautifully presented Abingdon Miniature Village and gardens. Time for a stroll around the gardens and lunch. Following lunch we continue to Perth with a city tour prior to arriving at our home for six nights, the centrally located Citigate Hotel.

Day 5 (B,L,D) PERTH
A leisurely start today as we visit Kings Park with its spectacular displays of Western Australian wildflowers and native flora incorporating the Botanic Gardens. Being springtime, the flowers should look amazing. Enjoy magnificent views of the city centre and along the Swan River from the walkways. Following lunch at the gardens we visit the Perth Mint where we view the tradition Gold Pour as part of a guided tour.

Day 6 (B,D) PERTH
Today is a day at leisure. The choice of activity (or lack of activity) is yours. Perhaps spend a day on Rottnest Island or a Swan River cruise. The day is yours to enjoy. Please note that lunch today is not included in your fare.

Day 7 (B,L,D) PERTH, FREMANTLE
A day in Fremantle today as we cruise by ferry from Perth’s Barrack Street Jetty down the Swan River. On arrival we board the Fremantle Tram for a tour of the historic port town. Lunch at Fishing Boat Harbour is followed by a visit to the Maritime Museum where, amongst other displays, is Australia 11 the America’s Cup winning yacht. We return later to Perth.

Day 8 (B,L,D) NORTHBRIDGE
This morning we visit the well presented Western Australian Museum, situated in the Northbridge cultural precinct, which has many outstanding displays and artefacts that will keep you interested for hours. Adjacent is the Art Gallery of Western Australia. You may wish to visit both. Lunch in Northbridge is followed by some free time for shopping and maybe a stroll along Hay Street or Murray Street Malls.

Day 9 (B,L,D) TOODYAY, BINDOON
Toodyay is a quiet town situated on the Avon River and was originally settled for farming in the 1830’s. Visit the Newcastle gaol (Newcastle being the name of one of the original settlements on the Avon), Connor’s Mill and Visitor Centre. Lunch in Toodyay before continuing through Karri and Jarrah forests to Bindoon before returning to Perth.

Day 10 (B,L) PERTH, HOME
We depart Perth this morning for our return flight home. Interstate passengers may fly direct to home ports. Melbourne metropolitan hotel/home transfers complete a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday in the Western State.
