The Clare Valley is an idyllic holiday destination with more than 35 boutique wineries, antique stores and the Riesling Trail.

Breakfasts for this stay-put holiday are in the Resort dining room.

Day 1 (L,D) HOME, ADELAIDE, CLARE

Following home/hotel pick up in the metropolitan area we transfer to Melbourne Airport for the short flight to Adelaide. Passengers from other states may fly direct to Adelaide or via Melbourne. On arrival we board our coach for a tour of Adelaide followed by lunch in Glenelg. We continue to Clare and our home for 5 nights, the 4 star Clare Country Club. Time to settle in prior to dinner.

Day 2 (B,L,D) CLARE, SEVENHILL

A leisurely start as we travel the short distance to Sevenhill Winery. Sevenhill was established in 1851 when Jesuit priests from Austria settled in the area and planted vines to produce sacramental wine. Today sacramental wines are still produced together with an extensive range of excellent table wines. The site also contains St Aloysius’ Church and College buildings together with spacious gardens and surrounding vineyards. We also visit the Polish Hill River Church Museum, learn the history of what was once Australia’s largest Polish settlement. We return to Clare for lunch, followed by some free time in the shopping district before visiting the Old Police Station Museum.

Day 3 (B,L,D) CLARE, BURRA

Today we visit the historic former copper mining town of Burra. The discovery of copper here helped to save the ailing South Australian economy in the 1850’s and 60’s. Enjoy a guided tour of the town visiting the historic remnants of the copper heydays, followed by lunch at the Burra Bakery. Free time in town to explore the antique shops and galleries. We return via Mintaro visiting Martindale Hall, a 19th century Georgian Mansion.

Day 4 (B,L,D) GLADSTONE, BUNGAREE STATION, CLARE

A country drive through Spalding and Jamestown before arriving in Gladstone for a morning cuppa and visit to the Old Gaol built in 1879 to house “inebriates and debtors”. Following lunch we continue to another historic location, Bungaree Station. In its heyday, Bungaree was like a small village with its beautiful sandstone woolshed, shearers’ quarters, stable yard, station store, manager’s house, staff cottages and even the district council chambers and a church. The property and the heritage-listed buildings remain largely unchanged since the horse and buggy days and, as a result, Bungaree provides a better insight into the pastoral history of the 19th Century than a museum could ever do. Today it is still one of Australia’s parent merino studs and many of the buildings have been converted into comfortable accommodation.

Day 5 (B,L,D)  EUDUNDA, NURIOOTPA, ANGASTON, KAPUNDA

Today we travel through Eudunda to Nuriootpa and Angaston on the northern edge of the Barossa Valley. Visit Angus Park Shop (dried fruits, chocolate, nuts), Barossa Valley Cheese and Barossa Valley Quilt and Craft Cottage. We return via Kapunda which, together with Burra, was part of the South Australian copper belt.

Day 6 (B,L) CLARE, ADELAIDE, HOME

We return to Adelaide for our mid afternoon flights to Melbourne. Interstate passengers may fly direct to their home state or via Melbourne. Melbourne metropolitan home/hotel transfers complete a relaxing holiday in one of Australia’s premium wine districts.
