Flinders Ranges

Day 1 (L,D) HOME, ADELAIDE, BAROSSA VALLEY, BURRA
Today we arrive into Adelaide where our Young at Heart coach awaits for our afternoon journey to Gawler and through the delightful scenic rolling hills of the Barossa Valley. We continue via Kapunda to Burra, arriving at our home for the night, the Burra Motor Inn.
Day 2 (B,L,D)PETERBOROUGH, ORROROO, HAWKER, WILPENA POUND
Our day starts with a guided tour of this historic copper mining town, a major contributor to the South Australian economy. We then travel to Peterborough, our lunch destination. We visit the Steamtown Heritage Railway Centre, see the historic locomotives and luxury carriages and tour the extra-ordinary heritage listed ‘Roundhouse’. Later continue to Orroroo and view the world’s largest red gum, with a 10 metre girth and 900 years old. Arriving into Hawker we visit the remarkable Wilpena Panorama before making our way to the Wilpena Pound Resort, our home for three nights.
Day 3 (B,L,D) WIRREALPA STATION, BLINMAN
If you wish, take a spectacular early morning flight (own expense) over the Flinders Ranges and Wilpena Pound. Following breakfast, we travel north to Wirrealpa Station where we meet the owners of this large sheep station. Morning cuppa here before a tour of the Station followed by a special treat, salt bush mutton lunch. During the afternoon we travel to Blinman, once the site of an extensive copper mining operation. We return to Wilpena via Stokes Hill Lookout for an impressive 360 degree view of the Flinders Ranges and Huck’s Lookout. Amazing views today!
Day 4 (B,L,D) BUNYEROO and BRACHINA GORGES 4WD TOUR
Another fantastic scenic highlight of our holiday as we join a 4WD tour of the Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges and travel through the Aroona Valley. A fascinating “Corridor of Time” geological tour. Lunch at the Resort before a short drive to view the Cazneaux Tree, named “Spirit of Endurance”. Some free time this afternoon to enjoy our surroundings.
Day 5 (B,L,D) WILPENA, HAWKER, QUORN, PORT AUGUSTA
Today we visit Kanyaka Homestead ruins, then travel via Proby’s Grave and Warren Gorge on route to Quorn for lunch. Some time for a browse and a visit to the historic Pichi Richi railway station. A short journey brings us to Port Augusta the town known as the ‘Crossroads of Australia’ which enjoys the Flinders Ranges as a backdrop. Our home for two nights, Standpipe Golf Motor Inn.
Day 6 (B,L,D) PORT AUGUSTA, WHYALLA
Following breakfast we visit the Wadlata Outback Centre, an award winning “tunnel in time” exhibition. Time to stroll the Arid Lands Botanic Gardens and take in the scenic views from the Flinders Red Bank Lookout. Our afternoon is spent with a leisurely drive to Whyalla Maritime Museum and Mt Laura Homestead.
Day 7 (B,L,D) PORT AUGUSTA, ADELAIDE
A leisurely morning drive brings us to Adelaide in time for a later lunch. Our afternoon is spent viewing some of Adelaide’s significant landmarks on a city tour before we check in to the Stamford Plaza Hotel, Adelaide.
Day 8 (B,L) ADELAIDE, GLENELG, HOME
We spend our morning in the delightful seaside suburb of Glenelg. Morning tea with time here for a stroll along the pier and foreshore or perhaps a browse along Jetty Road. We return to Adelaide Airport to join connecting flights home completing our outback holiday in the awe-inspiring Flinders Ranges.
