Easter in the Snowy Mountains

Day 1 (D) HOME, CANBERRA
Our Alpine Easter getaway begins on arrival into Canberra Airport. During the afternoon enjoy the 360 degree views from the Black Mountain Tower and then stroll through the Australian National Botanic Gardens which houses the largest living collection of Australian Native Flora. Our home for tonight is the Rydges Capital Hill. Some time to relax before dinner.
Day 2 (B,L,D) CANBERRA, COOMA, JINDABYNE
Departing our hotel we circle Parliament House and pause for photos along the shores of Lake Burley Griffin at the National Carillon. We then turn south, making our way to Cooma, the gateway to the Snowy Mountains.
On arrival we view Centennnial Park and Nanny Goat Hill. A visit to the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre showcases the amazing history of the Snowy Hydro Scheme. A short drive brings us to Jindabyne and our home for four nights, Rydges Horizons Snowy Mountains.
Day 3 (B,L,D) GOOD FRIDAY, THREDBO VALLEY
We begin our morning with a stroll along the Foreshore Park adjacent to our hotel followed by a visit to nearby Dalgety, once considered a site for Australia’s capital. Following lunch we take a scenic drive to the charming alpine village of Thredbo. We explore the village square before taking a scenic chairlift ride to Eagle’s Nest. Magnificent views abound. On our return to Jindabyne we stop for photos at Lake Crackenback along Thredbo Valley.
Day 4 (B,L,D) YARRANGOBILLY CAVES, CABRAMURRA, JINDABYNE
A travel day today as we take a leisurely drive to Yarrangobilly Caves, a group of limestone caves set amongst deep gorges and steep bluffs. We tour Jillabenan Cave, said to be one of the most decorative show caves in Australia and enjoy a picnic lunch at the Visitor Centre. Later we visit the village of Cabramurra, the highest permanent settlement in Australia. The buildings within the village were specifically designed to withstand the harsh winter conditions and offer a unique sight from the town lookout.
Day 5 (B,L,D) EASTER SUNDAY, PERISHER VALLEY, CHARLOTTE’S PASS, MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO
Some time to attend church this morning, if you wish, or you may wish to join us for a visit to the gallery at Snowy Region Visitor Centre. We return to Mount Kosciuszko National Park spending our afternoon passing through Perisher Valley to Charlotte Pass on the highest public road in Australia. Great mountain vistas and views (subject to weather) of Mt Kosciuszko can be enjoyed from a nearby boardwalk and lookout (a few steps involved to reach the top lookout). A truly magical part of Australia.
