Marysville- in the Mystic Mountains

Day 1 (L,D) MELBOURNE, COOMBE COTTAGE, MARYSVILLE
Our short break to the picturesque township of Marysville begins with a visit to the charming Coombe Cottage, home of Dame Nellie Melba, the first Australian to achieve international recognition as a classical musician. Built in 1912 Coombe Cottage is still beautifully preserved. We tour the stunning gardens prior to a delightful lunch in the Melba Estate Restaurant. Later we travel along the Black Spur to Marysville. Our home for four nights is the contemporary Vibe Hotel Marysville.
Day 2 (B,L,D) MARYSVILLE
A relaxing day exploring this reborn village. The area is thriving once again with the help of nature and the re-growth is simply amazing. We tour the area with a local guide and visit the Tourist Information Centre and the fascinating Marysville District Historical Society. During the day we also enjoy an easy level track walk to the awe-inspiring Steavensons Falls, one of Victoria’s highest waterfalls.
Day 3 (B,L,D) ALEXANDRA, EILDON
We travel to the regional town of Alexandra, centre of a large farming district, with a visit to the Alexandra Timber Tramway Museum. Afterwards we take a stroll around town and enjoy lunch prior to visiting Eildon, home to a large houseboat fleet. When full, the man made lake holds six times the amount of water as Sydney Harbour. View the spillway as we cross the huge retaining wall and enjoy stunning extensive views of the lake from Fogg Lookout at nearby Mt Pinniger. Dinner tonight at nearby Narbethong.
Day 4 (B,L,D) BRUNO’S SCULPTURES, LAKE MOUNTAIN
A visit this morning to the unique artworks of the sculptor and painter Bruno Torfs. A collection of unforgettable hand crafted characters displayed in a delightful rainforest setting. We enjoy a delicious lunch at the Marysville Bakery. During the afternoon we climb high into the Great Dividing Range to the popular cross country skiing resort of Lake Mountain. A local guide will join us as we visit the scenic Alpine Meadows. Spectacular views!
Day 5 (B,L) HEALESVILLE, YARRA GLEN, MELBOURNE
This morning we stop in the quaint town of Healesville where we visit the Big Bouquet, a state-of-the-art gerbera and alpaca farm and see the 60,000 gerberas in a massive glasshouse. Morning tea and a guided tour here. We continue to Yarra Glen and Alowyn Gardens. Set on four acres, Alowyn Gardens has a perennial border, parterre garden, edible garden and a sunken garden with a classic fountain. A garden tour and lunch here before returning to Melbourne mid afternoon completing our enjoyable short holiday in the rejuvenated township of Marysville.
